The Bang Na residential neighborhood has seen rapid growth in recent years both in the number of residential developments and commercially, since the BTS (Skytrain) was extended to Bang Na, Bearing and Samrong Stations. The neighborhood includes the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) and large shopping centers such as Mega Bangna and Central Plaza Bangna.
Stretching along Sukhumvit Road from Bang Na-Trat Tollway to Thepharak Road and eastward toward Suvarnabhumi International Airport, this area will see an increase in growth in the coming years with more and more investment and development in infrastructure. Some upcoming projects include the Yellow Line MRT extension due for completion in 2023, which will be a 30.4 km extension providing residents in this neighborhood a way to easily connect from BTS Samrong to Lat Phrao in North Bangkok.
Additionally, plans are currently being considered to connect BTS Bangna to Suvarnabhumi airport through a Light Rail line in 2029, an ambitious 18.5 km line running along the Bang Na-Trat Road with 14 stations making the already easily accessible Suvarnabhumi Airport through the Bang Na-Trat tollway even easier to get to.
Si Iam Station on the MRT Yellow Line and opening in 2023, is within easy distance of Regal Bangna. The Light Rail line planned to open in 2029 intersects with Si Iam Station and will provide direct access to Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Connecting the Bang Na neighborhood to the eastern seaboard and encouraging traffic and visitors to the area, the relocation of the Eastern Bus Terminal from Ekkamai to the Bang Na area would further invigorate this already bustling district.
FUTURE infrastructure & Development
The area is populated mostly by Thais, with pockets of foreigners, many of whom are teachers or have children attending the international schools in the area.
The Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) at Bang Na–Trat Road km. 1, recently completed a major expansion. The upgraded facility has over 70,000 square meters of space, including three convention halls, 12 meeting rooms, retail and dining spaces, an outdoor concert area and a mixed-use office building.
Summer Lasalle, a mixed-use project at Sukhumvit 105 Soi 22, comprises five office campuses of 4-6 buildings each, a community mall and a 3-star hotel.
Property developers are very keen on this area and see a lot of potential. The main megaproject coming to the Bang Na area is The Bangkok Mall, which will be the largest shopping center in Southeast Asia. Also, Megacity Bangna, Thailand’s largest all-inclusive lifestyle city development and The Forestias, the world’s first mixed-use lifestyle project incorporating a large forest ecosystem. These projects will further transform Bang Na into a thriving metropolis and a shoppers’ paradise with a wealth of choice when it comes to shops, restaurants and entertainment venues.
One of the largest malls in Southeast Asia, Mega Bangna, boasts something for everyone with stores like IKEA, Big C Extra, Home Pro, Robinson Department Store and hundreds of shops and restaurants. Other malls to discover in Bang Na include Central Plaza Bangna, Bangna Interchange Market, Chic Republic Bangna, Bizzo Bangna, Little Walk Bangna and Imperial World Samrong.
